چکیده

Active Queue Management (AQM) is an important problem in networking. In this paper, we propose a general functional optimization model for designing AQM schemes. Unlike the previous static function optimization models based on the artificial notion of utility function, the proposed dynamic functional optimization formulation allows us to directly characterize the desirable system behavior of AQM and design AQM schemes to optimally control the dynamic behavior of the system. Such a formulation also allows adaptive control which enables the AQM scheme to continuously adapt to dynamic changes of networking conditions. In this paper, we present the Pontryagin minimum principle, a necessary condition, for the functional optimization model of AQM with TCP AIMD congestion control. As an example, we investigate a queuing stability criteria and apply the necessary conditions to optimize the functional model.

A Non-Equilibrium Analysis & Control Framework for Active Queue Management

We present a non-equilibrium analysis and control approach for the Active Queue Management (AQM) problem in communication networks. Using simplified fluid models, we carry out a bifurcation study of the complex dynamic queue behavior to show that non-equilibrium methods are essential for analysis and optimization in the AQM problem. We investigate an ergodic theoretic framework for stochastic m...

Convex optimization of output link scheduling and active queue management in QoS constrained packet switches

We present two novel algorithms at the ingress and egress of packet switches with QoS provisioning and fairness constraints. We first provide a suite of generalized weighted fair queuing formulations for output link scheduling, where the weights can be dynamically optimized under QoS constraints using the tool of geometric programming. We then provide a suite of active queue management formulat...

Optimization of M G 1 Queue with Vacation (TECHNICAL NOTE)

This paper reports on the minimization of the average waiting time of the customers in the M/G/1 queue with vacation. Explicit formula for the unknown service parameter of a particular customer has been obtained by considering the exhaustive service discipline in the case of multi-user with unlimited service system. Moreover, results in case of partially gated and gated service disciplines unde...
